Casa de los Desperados is a desert lodge where you can leave your stress behind, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty and charm of the desert. Operated by critically renowned chef Wayne King, his partner Michael, and their dog Piero, this unique property sits at the edge of the oasis in the center of Whitewater Canyon, directly on the fault line which created it. The location has stunning views of Mt. San Jacinto and access to the Wildlands Conservancy Whitewater Preserve just up the road. The Whitewater River, which runs all year round in our back yard is our slice of desert paradise. In addition, we have miles of hiking trails and paths including the Pacific Crest Trail.

However, there is more to the Coachella Valley than hiking. You can drive 2 mins down the road and visit the Whitewater Preserve, take an easy 40 minute drive to journey through the world famous Joshua Tree National Park, stop over to the fabulous old time movie set village “Pioneertown” featuring Pappy and Harriet’s Saloon, our favorite watering hole and a well known live music destination, and be home in time for a night on the town or a soak in the hot tub under the stars.

We know not everyone is into the great outdoors. Luckily we’re close to the incredible Cabazon Outlet Shops. People come from as far away as Asia to shop there. We’re also within driving distance to antique and retail shops, restaurants, bars, gay and straight nightclubs, casinos, and all the glamour downtown Palm Springs has to offer.

Whether you are seeking a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway, or a base from which to explore the natural wonders of the Coachella Valley, you’ll find what you’re looking for at Casa de los Desperados. It’s sort of like an elegant safari! In fact, during WWII, Patton trained his troops for battle against Rommel in Africa right here in our canyon!

We like to combine the magic of a serene getaway with the comforts of home. Part of that charm is for you to meet our wonderful dog Piero, an Irish Wolfhound mix. He is very friendly and loves the great outdoors. So if you need a trustworthy guide for a hike up the wash, he will show you the way!

We’re only 20 minutes from the Palm Springs airport (pick-up available by arrangement) and less than a two hour drive from Los Angeles and San Diego. There are no street lights and no traffic, just beautiful mountains, starry skies, rough desert terrain, and wild animals. Indulge in our baked treats and fresh fruit, line dried Egyptian cotton sheets, and comfortably beautiful rooms. We have achieved TripAdvisor’s “Certificate of Excellence,” Airbnb’s “Superhost” status, and five-star ratings with glowing reviews from our amazing guests from all over the world. Come stay with us and you will understand why we are considered Palm Spring’s best kept secret – popular with artists, writers, birders, geologists, entrepreneurs, and professionals seeking a break from their busy schedules.
